Esker Novena
The Solemn Novena is held in June every year here in Esker, with novenas in Athenry and Ballinasloe also being conducted at the same time.
In Esker it a major festival of faith. People arrive for the first session which begins at 8 a.m. and the flow through the monastery continues all day for the different sessions until the final session concludes each night at about 11 p.m.
People come from all walks of life to celebrate their faith, to ask Our Lady of Perpetual Help for intercession with their requests. Some come in thanksgiving for favours received. As for others it is an annual event for families to come and pray together. To each person the Novena in Esker means something special.
There is a different topic preached about for each of the nine days of the novena. Often we have lay people as well as Redemptorists who preach.
| We also sometimes invite guest speakers who have experience in both their own lives and in the lives of others of modern day problems that effect families e.g. alcoholism and substance abuse. |

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a very important feature of the Novena each year. Priests are available before and after each session each day.
Most people avail of this wonderful opportunity of making a fresh start in their lives of faith.
We also have a dedicated Mass on the last Saturday of the novena on which the anointing of the sick takes place.
One very special day during our novena each year is the children's day which is held on the first Sunday during the novena. On this day children and babies are blessed individually and given a medal of Our Mother of Perpetual Help which many treasure for the rest of their lives..
For those who cannot be with us for the novena you can forward your petitions or thanksgivings by sending an email to
